A successful IVF/ICSI leads to a good stock of spare embryos. The left over viable embryos are then cryo-preserved in liquid nitrogen at –196 degree, which reduces the chances of losing the viability during the course of keeping it for a long time. These preserved embryos can be later used to conceive more babies from a single egg recovery cycle.
Advantages and benefits
- Reduces the risk of multiple pregnancies as transfer of appropriate number of embryos is possible – the rest can be frozen.
- The embryo transfer can be deferred in patients unsuitable for transfer in the same cycle, as in cases with ovarian hyperstimulation, poor endometrial character, on women under medical treatment for other diseases like cancer
- Avoids embryo wastage
- Increases pregnancy rates per egg retrieval cycle, without any increase in the risk of abnormalities in the offspring
At Fortis Bloom IVF Centre, we are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for embryo freezing and we are using process of vitrification since 2006 for preservation. By using these techniques, we are able to attain good embryo recovery rate and pregnancy rates if we compare it with fresh cycles.
